I am a patient. Should I have concerns?


Although paying HC and getting only a fake invoice is not likely to cause you any immediate trouble, you may have problems when you try to claim your guarantee.

Since the story of fake invoices has hit the news and the evidence proving tax evasion has fallen in the hands of the tax authority, the people running HC face serious charges and possibly years in prison. The Hungarian dental clinic operating under the name HC is likely to be shut down in the near future. The chief dentists will be prevented from carrying out dental treatments during the investigation and it is unlikely that other dentists will be eager to be implicated.

Am I legally protected?


Your invoice states you got treatment from HC. The problem is that this company does not have a single dentist nor does it carry out dental treatments of any kind. HC has no ISO certificate. You were treated by an unknown Hungarian dental company. The name of the company carrying the actual work could have changed several times in the past.

This means that you will not be able to claim guarantee work from HC but you may be able to get the work done by the local Hungarian dental company if you find them.

If you submitted the invoice issued by HC to your health insurer and claimed the reimbursement of the dental costs shown on the fake document, you may be liable for fraud.

Die Geschichte handelt von einer relativ neuen Zahnklinik in Ungarn, die behauptet, eine Schweizer Klinik zu sein. Dies ist eine kurze Zusammenfassung dessen, was bisher passiert ist. Aus Hunderten von E-Mails, die von Hinweisgebern geschrieben worden sind, geht hervor, dass die meisten der Helvetic Clinics reine Fiktion sind. Im Gegensatz zu dem, was der Name und  dem Wikipedia-Eintrag entspricht, sind Helvetic Clinics keine Kette von Kliniken, sondern eine einzige Klinik in Ungarn, die vorgibt, eine Schweizer Klinik zu sein.
